Good And Bad

THE GOOD: The new international trailer for Serenity, the movie of the excellent TV series Firefly, is now out! Go see it at Can't Stop The Signal UK!

THE BAD: My comments, from Squawkbox, appear to be down, along with the whole Squawkbox site. Hopefully it will come back... otherwise I may have to change to using Blogger's comments instead. Gorramit.

A Tad Off-Cold

It's very warm today. More than it was yesterday, maybe. I've heard that yesterday it was warmer in Glasgow than it was in Honolulu. That's a bit much, I think. We Brits always complain when it's too cold AND when it's too hot, we're never satisfied. It would probably be better if it was grey and a bit chilly all year round.

I have a fan here at work, of the air moving variety, about three feet away over my right shoulder. The temperature gauge on the wall near me says... 30.4 degrees Celsius. Back at the Andover flat I have another big fan that's all mine and stops me from melting. Back at home it's warm upstairs but so cool downstairs you'd think we have air conditioning.

Fortunately, the hayfever season seems to be over for me. You have no idea how much better that makes me feel.

Oh, and Windows XP combined with Norton Personal Firewall 2005 can sometimes be extremely fucking annoying when they inexplicably stop a program (one that was working before) from doing things across the net for no good reason that I can determine by proxy, i.e. by talking to someone miles away on IM. If I had been there I probably would have been able to sort it out, but as it is the problem remains a mystery and a bloody pain in roughly equal measure.

Tragedy brings us
All closer. That's why terror
Attacks always fail.

Some of us are gone,
But we who remain stand tall.
The terrorists failed.

We've been bombed by a
Better class of bastards than
You. We win, you lose.

London's Calling

It's been a bad day in London.

Four coordinated terror attacks, all bombs, with 38 dead and over 700 injured as of this moment. A double-decker bus blown apart. The Underground brought to a standstill. Bus services in central London too. Panic, fear, and lots of worrying about missing loved ones as the mobile and landline phone networks went into meltdown.

But you know what?

We won. Not the terrorists. As said by one elderly Londoner who lived through The Blitz, "I've been blown up by a better class of bastard than this!" So they set off some bombs. London has more it's share of terrorist bombings for more than thirty years. It's nothing new to those tough London folk. Sure, it's a shock, and they were scared for themselves and their loved ones. Who wouldn't be? But they, and the rest of us in the UK, have weathered this sort of storm before. That resolve we've been hearing so much of in the news today is as strong as ever. They won't win.

I mean, seriously. You lose, guys. You think doing this will make us back down, make us join your righteous cause and worship the perversion of Islam you hold so dear? You must've turned your turbans too tight this morning. You've just made us more determined to beat you than ever before, and now we the Great British Public might even be happy to go a step or two further than before to do so.

You lose, assholes. Have fun while it lasts.
