After The Beep     Officially Discombobulated©
The text running across my forehead....

I really should put something up here. But there's not much going on in the world of the virtual answering machine just now. That forehead text just returns an engaged tone... There's not much of interest to report. Except...

Right now my job is a dull chore that keeps me from doing more important things. Or at least things I find more interesting. Which seems to be quite a lot of things just now. Like most people I'd just rather get paid loads for laying in every morning.

Okay, the Friday Five returns!

1. What was the last TV show you watched?

Technically it was on video, but it was last week's ER.

2. What was the last thing you complained about?

Having to travel up and down the country to go to places when I'd much rather have a week and a half off instead.

3. Who was the last person you complimented and what did you say?

Umm... You know, I'm not sure. That sounds terrible, doesn't it?

4. What was the last thing you threw away?

The stick and gum from a bubblegum lollipop, and a paper napkin.

5. What was the last website (besides this one) that you visited?

Discounting the Friday Five site and Blogger... probably the Alderac Farscape forum. I look at so many sites at a time I lost track.

A Design For Blog

So, it's experiment time. As you might have noticed, unless you are blind (if so: what the hell are you doing here?) I've had a play with the colours and layout a little.

Put down a comment to let me know what you think of it, and we'll see how long it lasts, eh?

We all know I like quizzes, so....

What Video Game Character Are You? I am Kong.I am Kong.
Strong and passionate, I tend to be misunderstood, sometimes even feared. I don't want to fight, I don't want to cause trouble, all I ask is a little love, and a little peace. If I don't get what I want, I get angry, and throw barrels and flaming oil at whatever's stopping me.

What Sort of Hat Are You? I am a Redhat.I am a Redhat.
I'm too much of a geek to be a genuine hat of any sort. I was hoping my result would be 'white-hat' or 'black-hat', and am disappointed that those results weren't even available. I probably think the cup-holder story is funny.

Okay, so now we're over that little episode... But I still don't think I'll answer the Friday Five as I'm not into celebrities enough to have any answers for it.

Oh, and writer's block is a bitch, if you didn't know. I've decided that I really don't like it. That combined with a general decline makes MT Hed a very dull entity.

So, with any luck, normal service will be resumed sometime soon. Thanks for putting up with the decline in output. And if you gave up on me... Well, you're not here, so f**k you.

The Stag Weekend: High Points.

Mad drinks, like 'Brain Damage' and 'Purple Haze'.

The strip club. Oh yes. Lurvely lay-dees. I thought it was very impolite to say "no, I would not like a dance".

Visiting pubs across the city-in-question.

The Stag Weekend: Low Points.

Walking around the city-in-question. My feet still hurt.

The casino. Not interested in gambling, really, so a bit of a dull time had there.

The snoring of one of the people slumped under a blanket in the room a bunch of us had to bunk down in. Sounded like a colony of elephant seals revving big motorcycles. Unstoppable. I had to leave to escape it. Still haven't really slept yet today, in fact, since about five a.m.

The Stag Weekend: Final Assessment.

Good time had by all. Feet hurt. Snoring bad.

Firstly... Can you say "over-egg the pudding?" Thought so. So can I. Just look at Wednesday's entry. But then, that's what I'm thinking, so, well, that's the point of all this, right? I don't write everything I think here... we'd be caught between long pauses of the wind whistling between my ears broken up with brief moments of insane ramblings. So you, oh readers, get snapshots instead.

Here's another one: I'm wracked by self-doubt and non-confidence just at the moment. I'll admit it, it relates to the same thing as Wednesday's entry. I need cheering up. I hope this weekend will do the trick. I'd better not drink too much or I'll end up blubbering into my beer.

Yeah, that's right, I'm overdoing it as usual. Being a bit self indulgent. And if you are out there, reading this... I'll apologise later.

But anyway...

The Friday Five Strikes Again!

1. What was the first band you saw in concert?

You know... I've never seen a band in concert. Not a 'real' one, only pub/student bands, and I'm not sure they count. Yeah, sad isn't it? I've been seriously deprived of good live entertainment. I just don't know anyone who goes to these things, and I've never really felt inclined to go.

2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?

Hard to say... I've always liked Portishead and Björk. Recently, as dedicated readers will know, I've added some new artists/bands (and one old one) to the mix, and I quite like Röyksopp's album. Aqualung is good too. But a favourite? I'm not sure I have one. I just like lots of things at the moment, no one specific.

3. What's your favorite song?

I quite like 'Strange And Beautiful' by Aqualung... And for reasons beyond my control I do like what will be the new single by t.A.T.u. "Not Gonna Get Us." Weird. Röyksopp's "Eple" and Coldplay's "Clocks" never fail to cheer me up. But all time favourite? Ummm... "Sour Times" by Portishead, the live version from the Roseland Ballroom NYC album. That's probably the best candidate. Maybe says too much about me, I think.

4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?

Guitars are portable and widely used, as I'm sure you know, but the piano would be best I think. Someone once told me that the advantage of the piano is you can play it and have Michelle Pfeiffer roll around on the top of it at the same time. While I might not necessarily agree with the choice of Ms Pfeiffer, I do agree with the sentiment. Plus there's a lot of lovely music out there for the piano.

5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?

The original rock and roll artist: Mozart. Or maybe David Bowie. Don't know why; guess he's just an interesting guy.

Weekend Fun

So, this weekend I'm on a big stag do in Nottingham. A friend of mine I've known since school (I even went to the same university as him, completely by chance, as neither of us knew where we'd decided to go till it was done) is getting married in May, so off we go to celebrate in the usual style for these things.

Which means drinking (something I don't really do in the Father Jack way, but then what mortal can?) and visits to strip bars, Jongleurs (the comedy club) and Hooters, amongst other things. Sounds like a good laugh. Running from Friday night till we drag ourselves back home on the Sunday at some time or other.

Let's hope I survive it.

More Friday Five-age!

1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?

Three family homes (one I don't remember cos I was much too young), one temporary house for a few months before the last proper house. One student halls room (catered, year one at uni), one student house (badly self-catered, year two at uni), one student halls flat (slightly better self-catered, year three at uni).

2. Which was your favorite and why?

The current one. It's out in the middle of nowhere; out nearest neighbour is about four hundred yards away; we're surrounded by fields; the town is over a hill so no big orange glowing horizon; and it's quite roomy. On the downside we get the worst of all the weather and we've been snowed in a few times, and our pipes have frozen... But otherwise it's great. It's just a shame we'll have to move out soon because of the aforementioned may-vultures-devour-his-liver-while-he-but-lives stepfather leaving...

3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why?

A bit of both, maybe. But then I've never really moved house... not properly. Soon, though, we'll see...

4. What's more important, location or price?

I'd have to say location very, very closely followed by price. Why live somewhere shite if you can manage to afford not to? Don't always get that choice, though...

5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)?

Big garden (that looks after itself...); indoor pool maybe, good for being healthy and not turning blue from the cold; fully integrated computer network with sockets in every room; BIG bath/hottub kinda thing, regular baths are too small to really immerse yourself; home cinema system; out of the way, main road out of sight and hearing; night sky unobscured by the glowing lights of civilisation; the biggest net connection money can buy; extremely comfy sofas.
