Not-Quite-Friday Haiku

I need to write more
Cheerful poems; but first I
Need to be cheerful.

There are things that I
Wish for, but I do not get.
That really does suck.

Almost August now;
Where does the time go? It flies
By, and then it's gone.

Done Some Packing

The garage loft, where all the books and toys of YesterYear (tm) have been stored for an age, has been cleared out and yes, even vacuumed. Not by me; I'm not that anal about cleaning.

I've actually thrown a lot of my old toys away now: Action Men without heads and their broken vehicles; an utterly filthy Millenium Falcon and X-Wing; Zoids without all their parts; fragments of Action Force vehicles and their endless collections of small plastic guns; little toy cars. That kind of thing. Some stuff I've kept, though, just to keep them.

If my brother was around while we were doing this, he'd be keeping everything. Every last thing, down to the tiniest widget or broken plastic wotsit. He's like that. I'm far more ruthless with regards to crap I've not seen for over a decade and wouldn't really miss.

I've packed away some of my books, too. It's scary sometimes how many I have, and I haven't even done them all yet. We're operating on a plan of splitting stuff between 'needed now or soon' and 'stored away till we have the space'. Most of my books, so far, have fallen into the second category. I'm planning on having a big tall bookcase in my new room, but since I've not even seen the place yet it's just pure speculation.

A Bunch Of Lines That Don't Rhyme

I do not look upwards.
For there is the sky
The sun, the stars,
The horizon.

My eyes are downcast.
I look at the ground.
I do not see where I walk.
I do not see where I am going.

Where do I go?
I do not see.

I do not look at the sky.
My eyes are downcast.
I do not see the horizon.

Angel, good to watch.
Shame there's no more to watch now
Until season five.

Babylon 5 Quotes

As the page says... A proof that B5 is both funny and intelligent.

Quick Thinking

At lunch today, one of the people at the table I was sitting at was reading their crisp packet.

"Text now to win thousands of tasty prizes," they read out loud. "Ooh, an I-Pod!"

"I wonder what they taste like?" someone asked.

I thought for a second.

"Apple," I replied.

Weekend Watcher

A quiet weekend again, really.

Got my new mobile phone all sorted out, so the Bluetooth headset got replaced because it didn't turn on and I got the software and a Bluetooth USB adaptor so I can load things onto my phone from my PC, like a decent ringtone.

Yeah, thrilling, ain't it?

Pretty much the only other thing I did was watch DVDs. I watch the latest Andromeda DVDs, which are as consistently awful and "what the fuck?" as ever. What were they thinking, really? The 'mysterious and mystical' Rev Bem episode was purest shite, bollocks used in place of decent writing. Bah.

But mostly it was a weekend of Angel. I finished watching the fourth season at last, with the last eleven episodes all watched yesterday (which was Sunday 12th, of course). Damn fine stuff. Not a duff episode in the lot, and it tied together a whole lot of the big whys of previous impossible things happened, all the way back to the first season... or maybe even earlier.

So now, some quick bullet points:

  • The Beast rocked. Serious Dude Factor Ten for the big stoney guy. Can't beat a good unbeatable, implacable foe for a good time.

  • Always nice to see Angelus out and about. There's another fella who knows how to have fun being Eeeevil. And Mr Boreanaz enjoys playing him too, which is a bonus.

  • Lovely to see the lovely Gina Torres again. She did a good job as lovely-but-creepy Jasmine. Have I used 'lovely' too often? You decide.

  • Dark Wesley is so much fun to watch. Him and Lilah are certainly an... interesting 'couple'. And plenty of angst type stuff at the end of it... which is always good, done right.

  • Connor is a div.

  • In case you missed that: CONNOR IS A DIV. He constantly believes anything any of the women in the show tell him. Except maybe Fred... and the one person he really should have listened to. I'll not say who, don't want to ruin it more than I have already.

  • Faith. She's the best. Rules the roost. Eliza Dushku does wonders. I need say no more on that topic.

  • Everything else? Top class.

Final words... Interesting to see how the W&H thing gets set up for season five, finally. And good to see how Faith gets out so she can shift over to Buffy (did I say Faith was very cool?) and exactly how Angel gets that amulet thingy he gives to Buffy who then passes it on to Spike, which leads to... things in season five of Angel I only know about in the vaguest sense.

I look forward to see season five... however and whenever that happens.

And yes... I have used the following quote before; and yes, it's got nothing to do with season four, but it's so damn funny.

G: "How can I thank you, you mysterious black-clad-hunk-of-a-knight-thing?"

A: "No need little lady. Your tears of gratitude are enough for me. You see, I was once a bad-ass vampire. But love, and a pesky curse, defanged me. And now, I'm just a *big* fluffy puppy with bad teeth. No! Not the hair! Never the hair."

G: "But there must be some way I can show my appreciation."

A: "No, helping those in need's my job. And working up a load of sexual tension and prancing away like a magnificent poof is truly thanks enough."

G: "I understand. I have a nephew who's gay, so..."

A: "Say no more. Evil's still afoot. And I'm almost out of that Nancy-boy hair gel I like so much. Quickly! To the Angel-mobile! Away!"

House Hunting

So, my mother went to the cottage that we are almost certainly going to be moving into, took some photos. Apparently all of the legal-type stuff is in the process of being done, so it really does look like that's where we'll be going.

Looks quite nice. Smaller than where we are now; it's three up, three down, with no hallway or anything, just a porch right into the lounge. The room-that-shall-be-mine doesn't seem much different in size to my room now. But it's smaller, which means squeezing in lots of stuff or just plain getting rid of a load of it.

And we'll have neighbours, of the just on the other side of the wall variety. Weird.

Hopefully I'll get to go and see the place at some point.

Dream A Little Dream

So, seems I dozed off after my alarm turned off this morning, and actually had a dream I remember. This never happens to me, so I thought I'd record it for, well, something. Not prosperity, unless I can make a profit from it.

We were going out. We were taking bottles of water... but one of them had a hole in the side, the water just streamed out in a little jet. I tried another one; the same happened. I tried a few more, and eventually there was one that didn't leak. So we took that one.

Hardly profound, I know, but there you go. And I have a very good idea what it pertains to, too.

No, I'm not going to tell you.

I've put into effect a little change to my archive list, so it should, for most people, run in reverse; newest month first, oldest last. Seems to make more sense that way.

Oddity

Sometimes I just feel isolated like I'm in a bubble. Like... there's things I should be doing, places I'd rather be, stuff I'd prefer to be doing instead of what I am doing, and things are happening to people that I don't know about and can't do anything to affect but want to. Like I'm in the wrong place but I don't know where the right place is. And all I want to do is be there instead of here.

But I don't know where there is.

Frustrating.
