Driving Me Crazy

Okay, so my boss broke his left arm a few weeks ago, and he can't drive. This has meant me having to drive him to and from work when I'm in Andover, whish isn't that much of a problem since a) I was going there already and b) he leaves work earlier than I usually do, so I get to leave earlier too.

However, yesterday I had to take him back home to Sheffield as well. Just by going home myself I'm eighty percent of the way there anyway, but the real problem was twofold.

Firstly, it meant I had to go further and then back again, adding about an hour and a half onto the end of the journey.

Secondly, I had to put all my stuff that normally sits on the passenger seat (my bag, mp3 player/radio link thing and phone) elsewhere, when there really is not anywhere else for it all to go and still be within reach.

Oh, and two other things. I couldn't really enjoy the music I was listening to with an audience; and he made me take a diversion around a bit of slow traffic that took longer to go around than the time we would have spent in the queue. Stupid.

When I said I'd do it last week it didn't occur to me until later on the problems it would cause. Neither did I realise that it meant he wanted me to take him back down there again on Monday too. That's the Bank Holiday, Easter Monday. A holiday. I'm only driving down there then because I can't be bothered to change the routine by driving on Tuesday and working Wednesday to Friday, since it would also mean driving back along the motorways on a Friday evening, never a fun proposition.

I ummed and aahed enough about not knowing what I'd be doing on the Monday and so not knowing if or when I'd be able to pick him up that he finally gave up on the idea and said he'd get the train instead. Which was kind of the whole idea of the vagueness, so, plan successful.

Trekkie Test

Trekkie Appreciator
Survey Says...
You don't mind Star Trek and have obviously watched a couple of episodes or movies, but you don't live or breathe the world. Not too bad! You've managed to tread the fine line between sci-fi buff and Star Trek nerd (otherwise known as the difference between enjoying Star Trek for its entertainment value and running around with a batleth quoting Klingon battle poetry). Don't forget to rate this test!

How you compared to other people your age and gender:
You scored higher than 20% on Trekkies

My score is as it is basically because while I don't own any of the series' on DVD/video or any memorabilia, I seem to know far more than is healthy about some of the details in the shows.

The only problem with this test is it fails to take into account my interests in other sci-fi shows.

Dull And Duller

For the second week in a row, I have nothing to do this evening. Normally I'm out doing geeky things (role-playing, to be specific) but, like last week, no game. Last week wasn't so bad, I had a book to read, but this time I don't and there are no films on at the cinema I particularly want to see, yet again. And since I'm in Andover, that means an evening spent with only my laptop and the internet for company. Oh, and my mp3 player too.

Gripping, eh?

Forced Out

This time last week I had to really make myself go out to the gym. This was because I was in the midst of an online conversation that I really did not want to have to stop. I made myself go anyway, even though at that moment it was the last thing I wanted to do. I can't ever be said to actually enjoy going to the gym, but last week I really didn't want to be there.

If it happens again this week, I won't go. Not that it will, I expect.

Extreme InSecurity

I just had to bring to everyone's attention this story of crazy overreaction because it's much, much scarier than it is funny.

Read, and wonder just how free people are in The Land Of The Free these days.
