Friday Haiku

Bad weather. Much snow.
Left work early yesterday
To avoid the worst.

But no snow all the
Way home, just within a mile
Of home. Back early!

Car Trouble

So, my car got taken away on Friday for it's repairs. Unfortunately, it didn't get returned in time before I came down to Andover, so I'm down here in a bulky, strange car. In the worst weather we've had so far this year. Without de-icer spray, window scraper or gloves. Just bad timing, really.

My car got returned yesterday, which is no use at all because I'm not there. But then the people I've got the courtesy car from called up asking when they could come and collect it. I said I was in Andover, meaning to go on and say that I would call them to reclaim when I got back home. Instead they asked a very stupid question.

"We can come and collect it from Andover if you like?"

My answer should have been why yes, come and collect this car and leave me stranded halfway across the country but I managed to restrain myself.

Idiots.

ROUTER UPDATE: It doesn't make any noise at all, so that's good. And it doesn't go wrong on any website I've tried to access so far. However, I do need to buy a new wireless card for my laptop.

R-out-er And About

So I have my new router; well, combo wired/wireless ADSL modem/router/4-port hub. A Belkin one this time; I'm done with stupid whistling D-Link ones for now. And, once I figured out how to get the broadband connection going, it works a treat. And it doesn't break the connection at the same websites the other ones did. So, so far, so good. I just need to see if I can get the wireless bit working.

Later I'll have to check if it makes any annoying noises of it's own.

[insert title here]

Yes, this is one of those times when I mourn not having enough going on for me to post about.

Something I can talk about: got our new digital widescreen TV, VCR and DVD player for the lounge last weekend. Damn me it was good to watch one of the films I've been waiting to see on that big screen! Unfortunately it was too windy for the aerial man to sort our TV aerial out so we can (hopefully) receive digital TV. And since he'll be putting an aerial socket in my room at the same time, I won't have to put up with using the rubbish portable aerial anymore.

Down side? Having to take everything off my desk and then take it to pieces so that the guy can actually get to the corner of the room he needs to get to.

On another note: my new router makes that whistle too, it's just that it's a bit quieter and much easier to ignore. So, good and bad.

Oh, and good luck to Jen. Hope that thing works out for you. Sending positive waves your way, baby.

I had a feeling
Yesterday: disconnected;
In wrong place. Not good.

Day off today; not
Doing what I expected,
But rest is welcome.

Surprising Turn Of Events

The computer system transfer thing at the weekend went swimmingly.

That's not to say there were no problems. A fairly fundemental part of the system stopped working properly; the mail merge. This was, basically, because their client computers went from Word 97 on NT Workstation to Word 2003 on XP Pro. But, with a bit of searching for answers on Google and a bright idea or two, I got it working again.

Huzzah.

No other problems were reported. Everyone was happy. No one hassled me. I was still glad to get the hell out of there, though.

Makes me mad, makes me sad. Wish
