So, I'm back at work... It's dull. Mind you, in the office, we have broadband. So at least there's an upside.

Incidentally, isn't Michael Jackson going on television about his court case massively illegal in some way? Should he be discussing the particulars of the case with an international audience?

That's just something that's going through my head just at the moment.

That and Bob Monkhouse. I wish they'd stop calling him 'game show host' as if that was the only thing he had ever done. That guy was writing jokes for top comedy shows in his teens. Bah.

So I'm at work right now.

That sucks.

The only days that I'm not working this Christmas/New Year are those days when no one is working, namely Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. This might sound normal to most people, but you have to bear in mind that I have never not had time off at this time of year ever. In my whole life I have never worked/been to school/whatever at this time of year.

That really sucks.

Oh well. The holiday starts tomorrow, I suppose.

My PC still has not come home.

We got sent defective parts. Yes, defective fucking parts. So it will be at least a week and a half until there is any chance of having a PC that actually bloody works.

The Famous Five... Sort of.

1. List your five favorite beverages.

Coffee.

Oh, you want more? Coffee, mocha (chocolatey coffee), tea, orange juice, lemonade.

2. List your five favorite websites.

The Farscape Lounge site, The Farscape Lounge Yahoo group, Jennifer Government NationStates, Save Farscape, the Bioware Knights Of The Old Republic PC game forum.

3. List your five favorite snack foods.

Chocolate, ham and cheese slices, tortilla crisps... umm... sandwiches? And, er, pork pies.

4. List your five favorite board and/or card games.

The closest I get is Solitaire on the computer.

5. List your five favorite computer and/or game system games.

Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, Jedi Outcast, Homeworld, Serious Sam. One or more of these, I am sure, will soon be supplanted by Knights of The Old Republic.

So.

Saddam has been caught. Interesting breakage of the Geneva Convention by the US, again, by displaying him in the international media. They love making big noises about laws and then breaking them when it suits them, don't they? Like the whole UN resolution thing before the war started.... You know, when the self-styled "Leader of the Free World" waited to hear the result of the 'democratic' Security Council vote about whether to invade Iraq or not and then completely ignored the "no" vote because it didn't suit them.

So much for democracy and law.

And, of course, for those in the UK: Soham. That's that, then. He did it, she covered for him because she didn't know or refused to believe it.

Thing is... every time I hear about another child gone missing and the big search for them (Millie Dowler for example) I always think of the other one hundred and fifty thousand people who vanish in the UK every year that we never hear about. Is it that those who we do hear about have families with better police/media connections and/or money than those we don't?

What about the rest of them? Does no one care? Why aren't they in the news too?

On a more trvial note, I'm glad we'll be getting rid of Karaoke (also known as Pop) Idol this Saturday. Finally. Mind you, it'll only make room for other crap to come on. And the charts will be polluted with more karaoke eejits for, oh, at least the next few months. You know, just until they (thankfully) fade out of existance.

Oh well, I can dream.

And considering that "the fat ones" usually get voted out long before now, I reckon Michelle is only there because of 'affirmative action'. I could be wrong, of course. It's not like I watch it, it's just an idea I came up with.

Shall I shut up about it now?

An interesting article, worth a read, I think. Thanks to Stormcaller for bringing this to my attention.

My computer bits still have yet to arrive, apparently. Which makes it even worse to see the copy of Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic sitting on my desk, not being played.

Work is a drag. It seems to take up so much of my time. Not just the actual work; it's the time spent away from home, especially in the evenings, away from a working TV, videos, DVDs and my (currently not working) PC that really sucks.

And finally, the Friday Five makes it's welcome return....

1. Do you enjoy the cold weather and snow for the holidays?

Snow is very nice to look at but awful to travel in if there's a lot of it. And I'm okay if it's cold as long as I'm warm.

2. What is your ideal holiday celebration? How, where, with whom would you celebrate to make things perfect?

I have various ideas, none of them practical or likely. I don't want to discuss it, actually.

3. Do you do have any holiday traditions?

Don't go to work.

4. Do you do anything to help the needy?

Yes, but less than I should or could.

5. What one gift would you like for yourself?

A reversal of fortune.

Need to know
If you're letting go.
It's alright, It's alright, it's alright.
Didn't know
I was hurting you so.
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright.

You came to me from nowhere
With nothing
And no-one.
Hold tight, hold tight, hold tight.
Goes to show
You never really know.
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright.

This is just one of those
Lonely nights.

The good times gonna come.

See me then
Investing so much.
In you, in you, in you.
Came so close
To the edge.
I do, I do, I do.

This is just one of those
Lonely nights.

The good times gonna come.

In the end
We let it go away
We let it float away
On the breeze.

'Round the bend
The sun is in the sky
It's starting to look like
It's gonna be, yeah, it's gonna be
A bright beautiful day, yeah.

The good times gonna come, oh lord,
The good times gonna come, yeah, yeah.

This is just one of those
Lonely nights.

The good times gonna come, oh lord,
The good times gonna come, oh yeah,
The good times gonna come, ohh,
The good times gonna come, yeah.

Need to know if you're letting go
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright.

My computer still doesn't work. Which means it's time to go the new motherboard-processor route.

Which means it's going to be even longer before I can have a working PC again.

Which means I won't be able to play Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic when it arrives.

Memories...

Last night I found an old IM chat log archive, one that had not been used and thus updated for a very long time. The last chat on it made me very sad, but not because it was about something that made me unhappy; quite the opposite in fact. It was a happier, simplier time then.

I miss it.

And yes, aficionados of the Friday Five will know there is no Five for this week. So I suppose we'll be back with the question answering next week, all the while waiting for a barrage of Christmas-styled questions.

The 'Company Flat'

Well, it ain't the Ritz. We'll see how it goes. It'll probably look better when we have broadband... Strange that.

Supplemental: I don't complain as often as I would like, I think. I suspect it's because everyone I would complain to has much bigger and more serious problems than my petty complaints. Even so, they're my things to complain about, so I will if I want to. Nyah.
